Week of July 9^th

Acts 2:32–33

[32] This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. [33] Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. (Acts 2:32–33 ESV)

[Context:   This is from Peter’s sermon at Pentecost in response to the clear coming of the Holy Spirit.  The Spirit being poured out on the church signified the Kingdom of Jesus was established.  Jesus, having accomplished the redemption of his people on the cross, was raised up bodily and witnessed by many.  Then having ascended to the throne of God – at his right hand – Jesus the risen King sent the Spirit of God to anoint his church.    The resurrection of Jesus was the sign of Jonah.  It is the ultimate proof that all Jesus claimed about himself was true.  And now the continuing story of Spirit-transformed lives, continues to testify that Jesus now reigns!]
